We are our People

From our staff - some of whom have been with us since Sweetgrass opened - to local farmers and fishermen to, of course, our wonderful customers, Sweetgrass is all about the people we work with every day.

Our Owner

Chef Penn TenEyck is the chef-owner of Sweetgrass Restaurant and the Outpost.  Chef Penn was most recently the Chef de Cuisine at the Dataw Island Club, but has worked in many of the Lowcountry's best restaurants, including Saltus River Grill and Bistro Patois in Beaufort and FIG, O-ku and Magnolia's in Charleston!  Chef Penn's family has deep roots in Beaufort Hospitality: their catering business provided the food for the movie The Big Chill, filmed here, and they designed and operated a fine-dining restaurant called Gadsby's on Bay Street (where Q on Bay is today).  Chef Penn, his wife Lisa and their precious daughter Mary and their families look forward to meeting you soon.
